Getting Started

What is MapMyCam?

MapMyCam is a live camera streaming discovery platform that allows users to find and view public live camera streams from around the world. You can discover streams by location, topic, or category, and also add your own public streams to share with the community.

Do I need an account to view streams?

No! You can browse and view all public streams without creating an account. However, you'll need to sign in with Google or email to:

  • Add your own streams
  • Leave comments on streams
  • Filter to show only your streams
  • Edit or delete your submitted streams
Is MapMyCam free to use?

Yes! MapMyCam is free to use for viewing streams. Free accounts can also register up to 2 streams. If you need to register more streams, you can upgrade your account through PayPal for additional capacity.

Adding Streams

What types of streams can I add?
Supported Stream Formats:
  • YouTube: Live streams, videos, and shorts
  • HLS Streams: .m3u8 format streams
  • Facebook: Public video streams

Content Guidelines:

  • ✅ Public webcams (city views, traffic, nature)
  • ✅ Educational or tourism streams
  • ✅ Weather monitoring cameras
  • ✅ Event or landmark streams
  • ❌ Private surveillance cameras
  • ❌ Content violating privacy rights
  • ❌ Adult or inappropriate content
How do I add a stream?
  1. Sign in with Google or email
  2. Click "Add Camera" in the navigation
  3. Fill in the required information:
    • Camera name
    • Stream URL (YouTube, Facebook, or HLS)
    • Topic and subtopic
    • Location (click on the map)
  4. Use the "Test Preview" button to verify your stream works
  5. Submit for review
Tip: Your stream will be reviewed and activated shortly after submission. You can view it on the live map once approved.
How do I get YouTube stream URLs?

MapMyCam accepts various YouTube URL formats:

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
  • https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID
  • https://www.youtube.com/live/VIDEO_ID
  • https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID
  • https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID

Simply copy the URL from your browser's address bar while viewing the YouTube stream.

Can I add private cameras or surveillance feeds?
Important: Only add streams that are publicly accessible and that you have permission to share. Do not add private surveillance cameras, security feeds, or any content that violates privacy rights.

Before submitting any stream, you must agree that:

  • The stream is publicly accessible or you have permission to share it
  • The content complies with all applicable laws
  • You take full responsibility for the stream content

Using the Platform

How do I search for specific streams?

Use the sidebar filters to find streams:

  • Search: Enter camera names or tags
  • Topic/Subtopic: Filter by categories
  • Stream Type: YouTube, Facebook, or HLS
  • Country/Region: Filter by location
  • My Streams: Show only your submitted streams (requires sign-in)
How do I view a stream?

Click on any marker on the map to open a popup with:

  • Stream details and status
  • Live video player
  • Comments section
  • Edit/delete options (if you own the stream)

If multiple streams are at the same location, you'll see a numbered cluster marker. Click it to see a list of all streams at that location.

Can I edit or delete my streams?

Yes! When signed in, you can:

  • Edit: Update stream details, change location, modify tags
  • Delete: Permanently remove streams you no longer want to share

Edit and delete buttons appear in the stream popup when you're viewing your own streams.

Comments and Interaction

How do comments work?

Each stream has its own comment section where users can:

  • Leave comments about the stream
  • Use a nickname or stay anonymous
  • View comments from other users

The number of comments for each stream is shown in the marker tooltip when you hover over it on the map.

Do I need to sign in to comment?

Currently, you need to be signed in to leave comments. This helps maintain quality and accountability in the community discussions.

Technical Issues

Why isn't my stream working?

Common issues and solutions:

  • YouTube streams: Ensure the video is public and the URL is correct
  • HLS streams: Check that the .m3u8 URL is accessible and supports CORS
  • Facebook streams: Use the embed URL format from Facebook's video plugin

Use the "Test Preview" button when adding streams to verify they work before submitting.

The map isn't loading. What should I do?

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Clear your browser cache
  3. Check your internet connection
  4. Try a different browser
  5. Disable ad blockers temporarily

If the problem persists, please contact us with details about your browser and device.

Account and Billing

How many streams can I add?

Free accounts can register up to 2 streams. If you need more capacity, you can upgrade your account through PayPal to register additional streams.

How do I upgrade my account?

Click the "Upgrade via PayPal" button in the stream registration page or visit the upgrade section directly. This will allow you to register more than 2 streams.

How do I delete my account?

Contact us through the contact page to request account deletion. We'll remove your account and all associated streams and comments.

Privacy and Safety

What data do you collect?

We collect:

  • Email address and Google user ID (for authentication)
  • Stream information (title, URL, location, description)
  • Comments and user interactions

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you find inappropriate content, please contact us immediately through the contact page. Include:

  • The stream name and location
  • Description of the issue
  • Any relevant screenshots

We take content moderation seriously and will investigate all reports promptly.
